Dr. Oetker Plant Officially Open

The first Dr. Oetker pizza plant in North America is ready for business.

The plant officially opened Tuesday with pizza and a ribbon cutting ceremony attended by Dr. August Oetker (the original owner’s great-grandson), London Mayor Joe Fontana, and Liberal Premier Kathleen Wynne, along with the newly hired staff.

The plant expects to make 77,000 pizzas a day and it has already created 74 jobs, with plans for expansion in the wings.

Mayor Joe Fontana says, “They will be hiring another 50 in the next four to five months… and I see 400 jobs, as I’ve been told, by 2016.”

However, Dr. Christian F. von Twickel, Executive Director of Dr. Oetker Canada wouldn’t confirm the number of future number of employees, “The number of employees will always be growing with growing capacity. That’s what we built this place here for, to grow here.”
