Fanshawe Students To Fund Athletic Centre

Fanshawe College says a promised student donation has helped it hit the 70% mark on a quest to raise $100-million.

On Tuesday, the Fanshawe Student Union pledged $24-million to help build a new fitness and recreation centre at the college. The contribution will be made over 25 years. FSU president Matt Stewart says the pledge is a thank-you to the College for providing a high-quality education and facilities.

Fanshawe College Foundation Executive Director Catherine Finlayson says as the school grows it has to keep up with demand for services, which includes a new athletic centre.

Finlayson says they want to encourage students to take part in extracurricular activities so they can have a fuller experience at Fanshawe.

The student pledge is part of an ongoing campaign to raise $100-million to help the college expand, and to fund research and student scholarships. The campaign is part of a goal to support students and aid in their development at all of Fanshawe’s campuses.

Donations to help build the Centre for Digital and Performance Arts, that opened in January, were also part of the fundraising campaign. The school has recieved over $70-million in pledges so far.
