Hundreds of Registered Sex Offenders in London AreaMay 12, 2014 6:52am
After a six-year fight, information on where registered sex offenders live is finally public.
The data from the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services was released because of a Supreme Court of Canada ruling in favour of an access-to-information request from Global News. The ministry was told to disclose a 14-page document with the information on the number of registered sex offenders living in different postal code areas in Ontario.
The Supreme Court ruling upholds a 2009 order from Ontario’s Information and Privacy Commissioner approving the request from Global.
The info, last updated with the 2011 census, shows hundreds of registered sex offenders in the greater London area. You can access the map HERE.
About 350 registered sexual offenders living across Windsor-Essex and Chatham-Kent as of 2008. Across the 20 postal codes in Windsor-Essex there are a little more than 200 registered sex offenders while just over 130 live across the four postal codes covering Chatham-Kent.
Convicted sex offenders are required to register with the province.
