Home Safety Inspection Program Begins
The London Fire Department is kicking off its Home Safety Inspection Program.
The program will canvas neighbourhoods across London educating people about fire prevention and protection. It will also make sure homes have working smoke detectors. Canvassing crews will give complementary smoke detectors to people at their homes during visits if they don’t have a working one.
Legislative changes in 2007 mandated working smoke alarms on each floor and outside all sleeping areas. Penalties for not having enough smoke alarms or those that don’t work range from a $235 fine to a court conviction and one year in jail.
The program runs Monday-Thursday nights from 6:30-8:00pm until the end of September.
