National Day Of Honour Parade Planned

London will join Canadians across the country to mark the National Day of Honour on Friday.

The event will begin at 1:15pm with a parade of Afghanistan War Veterans from the 31st Canadian Brigade Group, which will start at the intersection of Clarence St. and Dufferin Ave. and end at the Cenotaph.

There will then be a moment of silence followed by a wreath laying ceremony. The wreaths will be laid by the sister and brothers of Trooper Mark Wilson, the London soldier who lost his life in Afghanistan.

City Hall will then host a reception for veterans at 2pm.

The city is encouraging everyone to attend and honour the 158 Canadian soldiers who were killed in Afghanistan, as well as the 40,000 soldiers who served there.

Dufferin Ave. from Clarence St. to Waterloo St. and Wellington St. from Queen’s Ave. to Wolfe St. will be closed from 12:30-2pm.
