A group of London students will ditch their shoes to walk for a greater cause.

London South Collegiate Institute students have been raising money for Free the Children by walking barefoot around Victoria Park for the past seven years. On Friday, the teens will host their Barefoot Walk downtown from 9:30am-2pm. During the event, students and other Londoners will walk barefoot around the park in a bid to add to their total raised for the Canadian organization, which topped $130,000 last year.

During the day on Friday, a number of inspirational speakers, musicians, and performers will entertain walkers. The students are hoping the event will help raise money and awareness for local and global social justice issues.

Spokesperson Meredith Leitch says all participants will be helping to support kids in need.

Student from South Collegiate say they expect over 2,000 students from other secondary and elementary schools in the TVDSB, LDCSB, and AMDSB will join in on the walk. Anyone else interested in participating can register online at www.thebarefootwalk.com.
