Two Mississauga residents are facing a long list of charges after a London parent made a concerned call to police.
The London Police Cyber Crime Unit began an investigation after a girl’s parents called in with concerns about individuals inappropriately interacting with her daughter online.
On Friday, April 25, London police joined forces with Peel Regional police to execute a search warrant at a Mississauga home. 25-year-old Daniel Labutte and 21-year-old Sarah-Louise Ray, both of Mississauga, were charged with the following offences:
- telecommunication with person under or believed under 18 years for specific criminal offences
- two counts of telecommunication with person under or believed under 16 years for specific criminal offences
- unlawfully possession of child pornography
- making available sexually explicit material to a person under, or believed under, 18 years for specific criminal offences
- making child pornography
Police are using the incident to highlight the importance of internet-use monitoring by parents. Parents are asked to tell their kids about potential dangers in the cyber world.
