Budget Day At Queen’s Park
Ontarians should have a good idea by Thursday evening whether or not there will be a spring election in the province.
The Wynne government will deliver its budget after the markets close on Thursday afternoon. Depending on what is in it, the government could fall when the budget vote is held.
The Progressive Conservatives have already said they will vote against it, while the NDP has hinted it will do the same.
There are suggestions the budget will contain plans to raise taxes on high income earners, tobacco, and aviation fuel.
Gerry McCartney, general manager of the London Chamber of Commerce, says he hopes the Liberals don’t tinker with taxes on businesses.
McCartney says he also hopes the Liberals do more to address Ontario’s growing debt. He says at $300-billion and counting, it is the largest among the provinces and something Ontario can’t carry much longer.
