Hotel Tax Eyed Again

An idea aimed at increasing tourism that was first proposed six years ago, comes back for reconsideration at London City Hall next week.
A hotel tax charged to visitors would be collected and spent on staging big events to attract more tourists. The World Figure Skating Championships held in 2013 would be an example of such an event. The city has to apply to the province for permission to collect the tax on hotel room stays.
It was first pitched to Board of Control back in 2008 but wasn’t adopted then. On Monday, the Investment and Economic Prosperity Committee will revisit the concept.
