Donation Will Help Young Moms
Young mothers, who once may have gone to the Salvation Army’s Bethesda Centre, will soon have another place to get help.
Youth Opportunities Unlimited has received a donation of $150,000 from TD Bank Group to set up a program that will help up to 12 young mothers and their kids.
“London has always been a special place for us and having been a part of this community for the last 150 years has been an amazing journey for all of us at TD,” says Howard Thompson, senior vice president of the Western Ontario Region, TD Bank Group. “And we are thrilled to be here with Youth Opportunities Unlimited who have made a significant impact on this community for many years and are proud to support their
continuous efforts to help so many of London’s residents.”
The program will provide housing, as well as a focus on health care and helping young mothers get education and find jobs.
The housing units will be near YOU’s Cornerstone building, which will make it easier for residents to access the facility’s educational, healthcare, employment, training and support programs.
“We are extremely grateful to TD Bank Group for its confidence in this important community initiative,” says YOU Executive Director Steve Cordes. “Housing up to 12 young moms and their children is the logical extension of our dedication to building healthy, positive futures for youth. TD’s generous donation gives YOU valuable leverage so we can continue to secure the support necessary to fully realize all this initiative can be.”
