Minor Flooding Expected
With rain and warmer temperatures in Wednesday’s forecast, the Upper Thames River Conservation Authority says it expects there will be some minor flooding in the area.
“We don’t anticipate losing the entire snowpack,” said Mark Helsten, UTRCA’s Senior Water Resources Engineer. “Some melting will occur, though, particularly along the South Thames River where there is less snow cover.”
It’s likely water levels in creeks and rivers will rise and stay elevated through the weekend.
The UTRCA is asking people to be very cautious near waterways.
“Any ice cover remaining is unstable and dangerous, the stream banks are slippery, and the water is extremely cold. We want to remind everyone to keep children and pets away from watercourses,” said spokesperson Eleanor Heagy.
