Sarnia hospital records four COVID-deaths in two days

There have been four COVID-related deaths at Bluewater Health since Wednesday.

Since the start of the pandemic in March 2020, there have been 74 deaths at the hospital. Chief of Communications Julia Oosterman said the latest were a 74-year-old woman, a 69-year-old man, a 79-year-old man and a 91-year-old man, all from Lambton County.

There are 29 COVID-positive patients at Bluewater Health, up from 24 on Thursday.

Oosterman said 10 of the positive patients are in the ICU, seven of which are on ventilators. She said 18 of the patients are not vaccinated for the virus and 11 are fully vaccinated.

Lambton Public Health reported 158 new confirmed cases Friday, as well as 114 resolved cases, increasing the active case count by 42 to 1,368.

In the last 22 months, there have been 6,699 lab confirmed cases, 5,245 recoveries and 86 deaths linked to the virus.

There are nine active institutional outbreaks, up one from Thursday.

The latest was declared Thursday at Community Living Sarnia-Lambton, where fewer than five staff members and fewer than five residents have tested positive.
