The vice president of the Grey Bruce Labour Council says the labour movement should lead the recovery from the COVID-19 crisis.

Dave Trumble said cutbacks to social programs have cost lives and undermined unions. He said during the crisis, people have come to realize how society relies on lower-paid essential workers and it would be a big mistake to ignore that lesson as the crisis eases.

“That we don’t simply fall back and start making all the exact same mistakes and marginalizing the people that we have found out very very quickly are the thread that’s holding society together,” said Trumble.

Trumble said the labour movement must be at the table with all levels of government as strategies are developed to restore our society and the economy.
