Crash  leads to impaired driving charge

A 20-year-old Merlin man is facing an impaired driving charge after allegedly crashing his car while under the influence.

Police said they responded to the single-vehicle crash around 4:30 p.m. Saturday.

An investigation led police to believe the man was driving while under the influence. He was arrested and taken to police headquarters for further tests.

Following breath analysis, it was determined the man had a blood-alcohol level exceeding the legal limit of 80mg of alcohol in 100mL of blood.

The man was later released from custody with a future court date.

Chatham woman accused of assault in domestic case 

A 20-year-old Chatham woman is facing assault charges after she allegedly physically hurt another man.

Police said they responded to the disturbance Saturday morning in Chatham.

Officers investigating the incident learned the woman slapped, punched, and cut a man with a broken piece of a fan.

She was arrested and charged with three counts of assault and one count of assault with a weapon.

Police later released the woman from custody with conditions and a future court date.

Couple faces charges after verbal argument turned violent 

A 33-year-old man and woman from Chatham are facing several charges after a verbal argument inside a Chatham residence took a violent turn.

Police responded to the incident Saturday evening.

Officers learned the man allegedly kicked and caused damage to the woman's car. The woman in turn damaged the man’s vehicle with a baseball bat.

Police said the man then allegedly pushed the woman to the ground where she gouged his eyes.

Both were arrested and charged with assault and mischief.

They were both later released from custody with conditions and a future court date.
