Man Charged with Obstructing Police and Drug Possession

A 43-year-old man is facing several charges after a struggle with Chatham-Kent police.

An officer stopped the man on a bicycle in the area of Princess Street and Colborne Street in Chatham on Tuesday night for improper lighting and equipment. He allegedly gave the officer two different names, and when he was placed under arrest he pulled away and a struggle ensued.

The suspect was taken into custody and his true identity was discovered. Police learned he had been wanted for breaching his probation order and failing to attend court.

Officials also said methamphetamine had been found during a search. The Chatham man is charged with obstructing police, resisting arrest and drug possession. He is being held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Motor Vehicle Collisions

Chatham-Kent police were kept busy Tuesday night, responding to two car crashes.

Shortly after 6:30 p.m. police responded to a three-vehicle collision on Lacroix Street near Park Avenue in Chatham. No one was injured. Total damage was estimated at $12,000. A 90-year-old Chatham man was charged with careless driving.

Then around 7 p.m., emergency crews were called to a single-vehicle collision on Queens Line between Merlin Road and Drake Road. The driver, a 23-year-old Chatham man, was taken to hospital as a precaution. He was charged with careless driving. Total damage was estimated at $5,000.

Police looking for the public's assistance

Chatham-Kent police are asking for help from the public in identifying a man in connection with a mischief investigation, stemming from an incident at the Car and Dog Wash on Park Avenue in Chatham on Friday night.

Stolen Vehicle in Wallaceburg

A black 2015 Mazda 6 GT that was left unlocked and running in a parking lot on Nelson Street in Wallaceburg was stolen.

The vehicle was taken early Wednesday, between 1 and 2 a.m.

The vehicle has tinted windows and was last seen with Ontario license plates BWWK 677.
