911 Hang Up Calls

Police are reminding residents to stay on the line if you accidentally dial 911.

Chatham-Kent Police have responded to 37 hangup calls in the last 24 hours.

If you accidentally call 911 and then hang up, the dispatcher will assume it is an emergency and send police to your location. 911 hang-up calls consume resources, therefore police are asking all cell phone users to “lock it before your pocket.”

Alleged Shoplifter caught in Chatham 

On Friday around noon police responded to a shoplifting complaint at Canadian Tire in Chatham.

According to police, the man hid $200 worth of tools in his jacket and left the store without paying.

A 26-year-old Chatham man was arrested and charged with theft under $5,000 and possession of property obtained by a crime under $5,000. He has been released with a future court date.

Traffic stop leads to an impaired driving charge

Friday night while conducting general patrol in Chatham, police conducted a routine traffic stop.

While conducting the stop, officers believed the driver to be under the influence of alcohol.  He was arrested and transported to the police station for a breathalyzer.

A 49-year-old man, of Longwoods Road in Chatham, has been charged with driving with a blood-alcohol amount exceeding the legal limit. He was released pending a future court date.

Rogers Hometown Hockey

This weekend, Ron MacLean and Tara Slone will be in town for a two-day hockey festival beginning Saturday at noon in Chatham.  The event will end on Sunday night following the Rogers Hometown Hockey outdoor viewing party and live broadcast from their Sportsnet Mobile Studio.
