Police Briefs – Saturday, December 10, 2016

Two men have been arrested following a fight in Wallaceburg.

Chatham-Kent police say on Friday, the two men had been drinking when the fight started.

One man grabbed a steel pipe, while the other grabbed a baseball bat. The man using the steel pipe allegedly hit the other male, causing a head injury.

Both men were arrested, but the man with the baseball bat had been released unconditionally at Public General Hospital. The severity of his injury is unknown.

Meanwhile, the man with the steel pipe had been held for a bail hearing.

A few tickets have been handed out to drivers during Friday night’s R.I.D.E program.

Chatham-Kent police checked 550 vehicles and did four road side tests. Of those drivers, one received a three day suspension, and two drivers received a provincial offence notice.

Locals are reminded to call a cab or ‘Home James’ during the holidays.

Chatham-Kent police are reporting over 27 collisions in the past 24 hours.

With the arrival of snow and ice on the roads, police are providing the following tips:

  • Create a ‘survival kit’.
  • Keep an eye on weather and road conditions.
  • Keep a safe distance behind snow plows.
  • Get winter tires, if you don’t already have them.
  • Slow down.
  • Clear snow and ice from your vehicle.
  • Keep a full gas tank.
