A Chatham man trying to shoplift a crowbar and spray paint from a local business has been charged.

Police say on Saturday around 5pm, a security guard at a business on St. Clair St. caught a man trying to hide the items in the front of his pants.

The man tried to leave on a bicycle when the security guard placed him in custody.

Police have charged a 41-year-old Chatham man with theft and possession under $5,000. He has been released with a future court date.


A collision in Chatham has resulted in the arrest of a 24-year-old Paincourt woman.

On Saturday around 7:15am, police say a collision occurred on McNaughton Ave. and Sandys St. in Chatham.

Those involved only sustained minor injuries but police suspected one of the drivers to be intoxicated.

The driver in question failed the roadside test. She was then arrested and taken to Chatham-Kent Police Headquarters for a breath test. The female driver has been charged with driving with more than 80 mg of alcohol in her blood. She has been released with a future court date.
