Police Briefs – Monday, August 15, 2016

Two men have been arrested for allegedly using a ladder to steal wiring from Bell Canada poles in Chatham.

An observant citizen spotted the two men using a ladder to remove the wiring in the area of St. Patrick St. and Foster St. around 6am yesterday morning, and called police.

Approximately $250 worth of Bell cable and steel support cable was stolen before the fled on bikes.

One of the suspects, a 30-year-old Chatham man, was apprehended a short distance away. A few hours later, police arrested a 32-year-old man from Raleigh Township. Both are charged with theft, and mischief.


A pair of crashed in Tilbury East Township on Sunday.

A single vehicle crash on Dashwheel Rd. near Roels Line in the morning caused $20,000 in damage. An 18-year-old Dover Centre man is charged with careless driving.

Shortly after 9pm, a 43-year-old woman suffered non-life-threatening injuries in a single vehicle crash on Queens Line between Davidson Rd. and Bonneau Line. She’s facing charges, while damage is pegged at $4,500.


A 20-year-old Chatham man is charged with following too closely in a three-vehicle crash in Chatham Sunday afternoon.

No one was injured in the crash on St. Clair St. near Oxley Dr. just before 2pm. Damage is estimated at $10,000.
