Tilbury's Brochu invited to Hockey Canada goalie camp

An up-and-coming goaltender from Tilbury has caught the attention of Hockey Canada scouts.

Brett Brochu, who is coming off an outstanding rookie season with the London Knights, is one of five goaltenders in the under-20 level who have been invited to take part in Hockey Canada's Program of Excellence goaltending camp. A total of 23 goalies have been invited to the camp, which also includes players in the under-18 and under-17 categories.

The camp will be held virtually this year from June 9-12 because of the ongoing pandemic. It typically serves as the first evaluation stage for summer development and selection camps for Canada's national teams.

"The Program of Excellence goaltending camp is a great opportunity to bring together the top young goaltenders in the country and assist with the development process for these athletes," said Scott Salmond, senior vice-president of national teams for Hockey Canada in a release. "Despite the unique nature of this year’s camp and the switch to an online delivery for our programs, we believe all 23 goalies will benefit from world-class instruction as we continue to prepare for a new season."

Brochu finished his rookie season with the Knights with the best goals-against-average in the OHL and the second-best save percentage. He also racked up a record of 32 wins and 6 losses with two shutouts.
