Maroons fall to Legionnaires 5-4

The Chatham Maroons came up short against the Sarnia Legionnaires with a 5-4 loss in overtime on Sunday.

Sarnia opened the scoring with the first and only goal throughout the first period.

It was a slow start to the second period, but the Maroons tied things up when Lucas Fancy scored a power play goal for Chatham. The Maroons quickly surged ahead, scoring two more power play goals in less than two minutes to take a 3-1 advantage. The rest of the second period was touch and go with Sarnia hanging with the Maroons as Chatham carried a 4-3 lead into the second intermission.

The Legionnaires scored again in the third period to send it to overtime and then sealed the victory by scoring the game winner in the first OT.

Maroons goaltender Kevin Linker made 37 saves out of 42 shots on net.

Chatham will be facing Sarnia again on Thursday, this time on the road. Puck drop for that game is set for 7:10 p.m.
