Sting lose in overtime to Spitfires

For the second night in a row the Sarnia Sting lost in overtime.

On Thursday the Sting fell 5-4 in Saginaw and Friday the visiting Windsor Spitfires edged Sarnia 5-4 in front of 2,816 spectators.

The Sting led 1-0 after the first period on Jacob Perreault's 20th goal of the season assisted by Ryan Roth.

Kyle McDonald tied the game three minutes into the second period before Sean Josling notched his 25th goal of the season while short handed with an assist from Ryan McGregor.

Perreault followed that with his second goal of the game with an assist from goalie Ethan Langevin on the power play.

In the third period The Spitfires' Will Cuylle and Cole Purboo would score to tie the game 3-3.

Sarnia's Ryan Roth would give the Sting the lead again assisted by Perreault and Theo Hill but Connor Corcoran would pull the Spitfires even again.

Daniel D'Amico scored the winning goal 31 seconds into overtime.

Sarnia centre Theo Hill said it was a tough loss.

"It's hard to fall short on games like that especially when you're going into the third period up 3-1. You just gotta find ways to win those games and move on."

Hill said "You can always find something good out of every game. A big part of hockey is staying motivated and confident. Going into the (Christmas) break I think you should focus on the good things and we'll come back stronger next week."

Sarnia's Langevin stopped 40 of 45 shots while Xavier Medina made 35 saves.

The Sting visit Flint next Saturday then host the London Knights Sunday afternoon before visiting the Knights New Years Eve.

All the games can be heard on 103.9 FM - 1070 AM CHOK.
