Maroons down Rockets for road win

The Chatham Maroons’ scoring depth was on full display before a solid crowd in Strathroy Saturday night.

Six different Maroons players found the back of the net in a 6-4 win over the Rockets in the team’s first trip to the West Middlesex Memorial Arena this season.

The Rockets got on the board first, opening the scoring in the first period, but ended up chasing the Maroons for most of the game. Chatham scored two goals to close out the first period with captain Griffin Robinson tying the game at 1-1 before Evan Wells tacked on a second goal less than a minute later to give the Maroons the lead going into the first intermission.

The Rockets tied the game up early in the second, but the Maroons started to pull away thanks to goals from Brett Fisher and Tate Bowden.

The Rockets answered back to make it 4-3 going into the third period, but a wraparound goal from Dallas Maurovic and an empty net goal from Maddux Rychel secured the road win for Chatham as the Maroons took down the Rockets 6-4.

Chatham’s next game is at home on Sunday at 7 p.m. as the team hosts Leamington for the first time in the 2019-2020 season.
