Pool Shark makes it onto provincial team

Another local swimmer has been chosen to represent the area in a larger pool of competitors.

Quinn Matteis has been chosen to participate in the Distance Camp and Dixie Zone Open Water Meet in Miami, Florida next month as part of the Team Ontario Tour.

The swim meets are scheduled to take place May 2-6. Team Ontario will be made up of seven swimmers. Matteis qualified for the provincial team after swimming in a 1500 metre race at the Eastern Swimming Championships in Quebec City, with a time of 16:32.93.

This swim tour is one that looks to prepare athletes who will be under the age of 17 during the 2020 Canadian Olympic Trials.

This comes shortly after two other competitors from the Chatham Y Pool Sharks swim team were selected to compete at the 2019 FINA World Junior Swimming Championships and the 2019 Pan American Games.

In addition to the students' success, Sharks Head Coach Brian Lindsay has been named the Staff Coach of the Ontario Swim Academy, to assist Lead Coach Don Burton.
