Chatham Pool Sharks selected for national teams

A couple of competitive swimmers from Chatham-Kent are getting the opportunity to represent the area on a national level this summer.

Genevieve Sasseville of Chatham and Madison Broad of Wallaceburg are part of the Chatham Y Pool Sharks swim team. The two attended a swim meet this past weekend to showcase their talents at the Canadian Swimming Trials, which judges swimmers from across the country.

Sasseville has been chosen to represent Canada at the 2019 FINA World Junior Swimming Championships in August. She is one of 19 swimmers listed on the co-ed team.

Broad has been placed on a team which is nominated to compete at the 2019 Pan American Games. Before the selected 16 swimmers are officially named to Team Canada, they need to be approved by the Canadian Olympic Committee, which is expected to happen by late June after receiving nominations from all National Sports Federations.

This year's FINA World Junior Swimming Championship will be held in Budapest, Hungary from August 20-25. The 2019 Pan Am Games will take place in Lima, Peru from July 26 to August 11, however, the swimming portion of the event will be held from August 6-10.
