Jr. hockey wrap-up - December 22, 2018

The Wallaceburg Lakers fell to the Sharks in Wheatley Saturday night 3-0 in PJHL action.

Two goals were made in the first period by forwards Ernie Godden and Jordan Paquette. The final goal for the Sharks was made by Parker Boyle in the third period.

The Wallaceburg Lakers are back on home ice January 2, 2019 to face the Essex 73's. Wheatley also plays Jan. 2; they're home to Amherstburg.

The Petrolia Flyers were in Mooretown Saturday night, where they fell to the Flags 6-2.

The Mooretown Flags came off strong in the first period with three goals from Garrett Miller, Nolan Farr and Cade Robbins. The Flyers were able to get two goals in the second period off the sticks of Matt Hunt and Cole Harris. Brock Perry also scored for Mooretown in the second. Miller with his second of the game and Zach Moore completed the scoring for the Flags.

Colby Ramsdale stopped 35 shots for Mooretown while Chaska Thiel made 18 saves for Petrolia

The Flyers are back in action December 30 to play the Admirals in Amherstburg. Mooretown is home to Lakeshore January 2, 2019.

In the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League the Sarnia Legionnaires beat the Komoka Kings 4-3 in overtime.

Komoka had a short-lived lead after scoring the first goal of the game during the first period and then another in the second from Wes Dobbin and Kurt Watson. Ethan Dupont got the first goal for Sarnia in the second period. Alec DeKoning and Joseph Ferrera scored for Sarnia in the third period to take a 3-2 lead before Komoka's Joel Mazzili forced overtime with a goal at the 18:30 mark with an extra attacker.

But the Legionnaires would prevail with Jake Vince scoring the winning goal (unassisted) at 1:24 of overtime.

It was Sarnia's fourth straight victory as they head into the Christmas break in fourth place, a point back of Chatham and two back of Leamington. The Maroons beat Strathroy 4-1 Saturday.

The Legionnaires will get a short break for the holidays and then they're back home to face the first-place London Nationals January 3, 2019.

Komoka plays St. Mary's on January 5, 2019.
