Flags, Blades tie in Blenheim 5-5

The Blenheim Blades started hot, but their game with the Mooretown Flags ended in a high-scoring draw.

An overtime period failed to produce a winner, and the Blades and Flags skated to a 5-5 tie Sunday night at Blenheim Memorial Arena.

Mooretown is in fourth place in the PJHL Stobbs Division with 24 points. Blenheim is in seventh place with ten.

The Blades scored four unanswered goals within the first nine minutes of the game, scored in order by Will Tetzlaff, Dede Cato, Keir Cumming and Ryan Malott. Mooretown got two of those goals back, beginning with Ayden Letang's score at 11:53, followed by Nolan Farr a minute and ten seconds afterwards. Cato put the Blades' lead at 5-2 at first intermission with his second goal of the game.

That would be all the scoring Blenheim would do in the matchup, though. Farr scored his second of the game for the only goal in the second period. In the third period, goals by Mooretown's Trevor Bogaert and Jake Vandersteen evened the game by the end of regulation. The Blades outshot the Flags 6-5 in overtime, but there was no scorer.

Adam Mino and Jake Wilkins platooned for Mooretown in goal, combining for 30 saves. Chris DeWulf had 33 stops in net for Blenheim.

The Flags head to Essex on Tuesday night, while Blenheim visits Amherstburg Saturday night.
