Maroons Doubled Up by London 8-4

Dane Johnstone scored twice for the Chatham Maroons but they were no match for the London Nationals' offence.

Carson Brookshaw and Riley MacRae got four points each for the Nationals in their 8-4 win over the Maroons Sunday night at Memorial Arena.

Chatham sits in sixth place in the GOJHL Western Conference with 33 points. The Nationals lead the standings with 56 points.

London picked up a quick 2-0 lead within the first seven minutes of the game, when Brookshaw and Kyle Dawson found the net. Josh Supryka put the Maroons on the board at 7:32 in the period, but London scored two more goals afterwards, off the sticks of Brett Whitehead and Mitchell Webb. Johnstone's first goal of the night ended the first period with Chatham trailing 4-2.

The Nationals continued to pull out the offence in the middle period, as Jordan Di Cicco and Max Vinogradov scored back to back. Maroons' goalie Ryan Wagner was pulled at that point and he was replaced by John Massara. Johnstone's second goal of the game followed for a 6-3 London lead. Isaiah Payne put up another goal for the Nationals and Bryce Yetman responded for the Maroons before the second intermission.

MacRae provided the third period's only goal for the Nationals.

Zachary Springer was in goal for London, stopping 34 out of 38 shots. Wagner and Massara combined for 39 saves for Chatham.

The Nationals travel to Leamington Thursday night. Chatham visits St. Thomas Friday. The puck drop for that game is at 7:30pm and all the action can be heard on CFCO Country 92.9FM/AM 630.
