Mooretown Doubles Up Wallaceburg 4-2

Ryan Lyle scored two for the Mooretown Flags' Saturday night.

The Flags closed out their 2017 schedule at home with a 4-2 win over the Wallaceburg Lakers. Mooretown now sits in fifth place in the PJHL Stobbs Division with 40 points, just four behind league-leading Amherstburg.

The Lakers are in last place with six points.

The Flags outshot the Lakers 20-0 in the first period, but miraculously there was no scoring.

Wallaceburg struck first at 4:15 of the second period on a power play goal from Jake Vancoillie. Lyle scored his two goals for Mooretown back to back later in the frame, the first tying the game on the power play, the second giving the Flags a 2-1 lead after two periods.

Nolan Farr extended the Mooretown lead at 5:27 in the third period. Austin Bentley brought Wallaceburg within one later in the frame, but goalie Nolan Hakr shot the puck coast-to-coast into an empty net to seal the Flags' win.

Hakr faced only 16 shots in goal and stopped 14 of them. Travis Moore stopped 52 out of 55 goals in net for Wallaceburg.

Both teams begin their 2018 schedule Wednesday night. The Lakers host Wheatley while Mooretown welcomes Lakeshore.
