Maroons Crown the Kings 5-4

Dane Johnstone scored the go-ahead goal in the Chatham Maroons 5-4 win over the Kings in Komoka Saturday night.

Chatham heads into the holiday break in sixth place in the GOJHL Western Conference with 33 points and a 16-15-0-1 record. Komoka is in seventh with 20 points and has a record of 7-20-4-2.

Steven Fowler gave the Maroons a 1-0 lead with a goal at 3:33 in the opening period. Not long after, the Kings tied it up when Wes Dobbin found the net. Chatham put two more up in the period thanks to goals by Keegan McAvoy and Bryce Yetman.

Isaac McLean put Komoka within one goal at 34 seconds in the second frame, though Thomas Michaud put the Maroons up by two again just 45 seconds later. McLean struck again at 7:05, then teammate D'Arcy Panziera knotted the game at four-all before the second intermission.

Johnstone's game-winner was the only score of the third period.

Ryan Wagner had 25 saves in goal for the Maroon to take the win. Reagan Gies stopped 22 shots in net for Komoka.

The Kings return from the holiday break on Wednesday, January 3 when they face the Nationals in London. The Maroons return on Thursday, January 4 when they travel to face the Leamington Flyers. Puck drop is 7:10pm and all the action can be heard on CFCO Country 92.9FM/AM 630.
