For the first time in 40 years, the Grey Cup is heading to Ottawa.
Redblacks quarterback Henry Burris capped an epic game with an 18-yard touchdown pass to Ernest Jackson in overtime to lead Ottawa past Calgary 39-33.
The result was a huge upset as the Stampeders were the heavy favourites to win after finishing the season atop the standings with 15 wins and just three losses.
By comparison, the Redblacks actually closed out the regular season with a losing record, posting eight wins, nine losses, and one tie.
Burris was rewarded for his stellar play in the final game by being named the MVP. He threw three touchdown passes and ran in two more for Ottawa after leaving the field during warmups with what appeared to be a knee injury.
The Stampeders trailed most of the game, only forcing OT after rallying from a 20-point deficit against the Redblacks. Calgary kicked the game-tying field goal with just ten seconds left in the fourth quarter.
It's the first time the Grey Cup has gone to overtime since the Edmonton Eskimos and Montreal Alouettes went to OT in 2005.
The Ottawa Rough Riders were the last team to take the cup to the nation's capital when they beat the Saskatchewan Roughriders in 1976.
