Wanted man allegedly attacks officers

Chatham-Kent police resorted to pulling out a taser to help them arrest a man who was wanted for some bail violations.

Police said they found the man after getting a call about a traffic complaint on Lorne Avenue in Wallaceburg at around 10:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Officers said they were told the suspect was following the callers.

When police arrived, they pulled the vehicle over and confirmed that the man was wanted on an outstanding warrant.

The man then allegedly attacked the officers when they tried to arrest him. Police used a taser on him and took him into custody.

The man was charged with failing to comply with his release conditions, assaulting a police officer, and resisting arrest.

He was taken to police headquarters and was set to be held there pending a bail hearing.

Chatham woman arrested for stealing jewelry

A 38-year-old Chatham woman is facing charges after she allegedly stole some jewelry and then had it taken back.

Police said they made the arrest after they were called to investigate a theft on Orchard Heights in Chatham where a woman had allegedly stolen some jewelry and money from a victim on Thursday, June 1.

Officers said by the time they got involved, the victim had already confronted the woman and took the jewelry back.

The 38-year-old woman accused of stealing the jewelry was arrested and charged with theft and possession of stolen property.

She was taken to police headquarters and was later released with conditions and a future court date.

Sarnia man accused of shoplifting

A 29-year-old Sarnia man is in trouble with the law after he allegedly stole some merchandise from a store on St. Clair Street in Chatham.

Police said they were called to investigate the alleged theft at around 6:40 p.m. Tuesday.

Officers said the man allegedly removed some items from the shelves and then left the store without paying for them.

Police said they found the man in a car, still in the store's parking lot when they arrived.

The accused was arrested and charged with theft and possession of stolen property. He was later released with conditions and a future court date.
