Wanted man arrested next to stolen vehicle

A call about a suspicious vehicle on a backroad between Kent Bridge and Ridgetown led Chatham-Kent police to a wanted man.

Police said they were called to the area of Howard Road near Selton Line at around 8:45 p.m. Monday and found a vehicle parked on the side of the road with no license plates attached to it.

Officers also found a man putting fuel in the vehicle when they showed up and later learned that the vehicle had been reported stolen from Bentpath Line.

Investigators said the man was arrested at the scene, adding that they later confirmed he was wanted on an outstanding warrant held by Ontario Provincial Police and bound by release conditions from three different police services, which included a curfew.

A 31-year-old Rodney man was charged with one count of possession of stolen property and seven counts of failing to comply with a release order.

He was taken back to police headquarters and was set to be held there pending a bail hearing.
