The Municipality of Chatham-Kent is looking to buy a mobile stage to roll to different events across the area.

A report going before council on Monday evening said the total cost of what's being dubbed the "Showmobile" is $256,221 and is to be funded from the Hydro-One Community Benefit Fund.

The municipality said the mayor already has an agreement with Mainstreet Credit Union for sponsorship of the "Showmobile" in the amount of $100,000 for a ten year term.

"We are thrilled to collaborate with Mainstreet Credit Union, which is donating $100,000 for the acquisition of a portable stage,” said Mayor Darrin Canniff. This investment will enhance the vibrancy of our local events and provide an accessible staging option for various organizations."

The mobile stage is an easily assembled and dismantled portable stage that can be transported and set up in various locations, said staff.

"It is a versatile and practical solution for creating a temporary performance space that can be customized to fit a wide range of events and venues," the report stated.

Staff also said over two hundred special events are hosted on Chatham-Kent municipal property every year and the mobile stage could be rented to offset operational costs.

The "Showmobile" is expected to be delivered in October if council approves it.
