Food drive in Chatham-Kent aims to "Fill The Bus"

Volunteers from CK Helping Hands will be out at grocery stores across Chatham-Kent on Saturday, May 26th.

They'll be collecting donations for the "Fill the Bus" food drive in Chatham, Tilbury, Dresden, and Ridgetown from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m.

"We're trying to fill the bus with at much food as we can," said Tim Haskell with FreeHelpCK and the Chatham Goodfellows. "The kids are coming out of school for the summer, so fill it up so that they have snacks and food for their bellies when they're out of school."

Juice boxes, healthy food snacks, canned fruit and vegetables, pasta sauce, jam, oatmeal, condiments, canned meat, soup and rice dishes are all in need right now at the local food banks.

They will also have a UHaul at Tecumseh Park during Ribfest, collecting canned goods. Haskell says all the food collected will stay in the community that collects them.

"Everything's going to Chatham Outreach for Hunger in Chatham. Everything else will is going to all the different food banks around Chatham-Kent," said Haskell.

In Chatham, donations will be collected at the Real Canadian Superstore, Food Basics/ Dollar Tree, No Frills, Giant Tiger, and Sobeys. In Tilbury, they'll be at Foodland and No Frills, and at Foodland in Dresden and Ridgetown.
