Homemade gun parts, 3D printer seized during bust in Chatham

Two Chatham residents in their 40s are facing charges after police seized a 3D printer and some homemade firearms parts.

Chatham-Kent police said their officers made that discovery while they were working with the Canadian Border Services Agency to execute a search warrant at a residence on McFadden Avenue in Chatham on Friday.

Officers reported seizing "large quantities" of both authentic and self-manufactured firearms parts along with a 22-calibre handgun, a 3D printer, "numerous" rounds of ammunition, several electronic devices, and two cell phones.

A 46-year-old Chatham man and a 42-year-old Chatham woman were both arrested and they are facing a long list of charges including weapons trafficking -- specifically for manufacturing weapons.

Both of the individuals were held for a bail hearing and appeared in court on May 24, 2023. They are now set to be held in custody pending future court appearances.
