Police allegedly find illegal drugs on suspected impaired driver

A 38-year-old Chatham man is facing a pair of charges after he was allegedly caught driving drunk while also carrying around a powerful painkiller.

Chatham-Kent police said an officer on general patrol stopped a vehicle on Michener Road in Chatham at around 1 a.m. Friday and believed the driver was under the influence of alcohol, so he was arrested and taken back to police headquarters for breath tests.

When police searched the man, they also allegedly found some suspected hydromorphone.

The man has been charged with drug possession and having a blood alcohol concentration over the legal limit.
