Two teen sisters charged after fight involving steak knife, platter

A 15-year-old girl and a 17-year-old girl are both facing assault-related charges after they got into an argument in Chatham that took a violent turn.

Chatham-Kent police said they arrested and charged the teens after officers were called to the area of Park Avenue West in Chatham for an assault with a weapon investigation shortly before 8 p.m. Wednesday.

Police said then the two sisters were arguing, one of them allegedly used a steak knife to assault the other girl, causing a minor cut.

The girl who was cut also allegedly assaulted the first girl with a metal platter, resulting in a bruise.

The 15-year-old girl was taken to police headquarters, charged with assault with a weapon, and later released to a family member with conditions and a future court date.

The 17-year-old girl was arrested, charged with assault with a weapon, and later released to her mother with a future court date.

Police follow impaired driver to his home

A 47-year-old Chatham man is facing a drunk driving charge after he allegedly led police right to his residence while they were trying to pull him over.

CK police said their investigation started just after 12:31 a.m. Thursday morning when they saw a vehicle on Park Avenue West in Chatham that was "driving erratically."

Police said they tried to pull the driver over, but he kept going until he arrived at his home.

The officer who spoke to the man believed he was under the influence of alcohol, so he was arrested and taken back to police headquarters for some breath tests.

The man then allegedly refused to provide a suitable breath sample.

He was charged with flight from police, impaired driving, and refusing to comply with a breath demand before he was released with conditions and a future court date.
