Wanted man shows up at the court house

Chatham-Kent police didn't have to go very far to find a Chatham man who was wanted in a criminal harassment investigation.

Police said the man was arrested shortly after 9:30 a.m. Tuesday when he showed up at the Ontario Court of Justice on Grand Avenue in Chatham.

In addition to the warrant for criminal harassment, the man was also facing charges for allegedly breaching his release conditions.

The 27-year-old Chatham man is charged with one count each of assault and criminal harassment along with three counts of failing to comply with an undertaking.

He was later released with conditions and a future court date.

Chatham-Kent man sobers up in police custody

A 57-year-old Chatham-Kent man spent some time behind bars after he was allegedly intoxicated to the point where he couldn't care for himself.

CK police said the man was in that state when they found him at a restaurant on Third Street in Chatham at around 4:45 p.m. Tuesday.

The man was taken to police headquarters and was held there until he sobered up.

Chatham woman arrested for shoplifting

A 31-year-old Chatham woman is facing a pair of charges after she allegedly filled a bag with some merchandise at a business on Grand Avenue West in Chatham and then left without paying for the items.

Police said they were called to the business at 6:40 p.m. Tuesday and they were able to identify the woman thanks to some surveillance video and witness descriptions.

Officers said she was arrested near King Street and Fifth Street in Chatham and that they were able to recover the merchandise that was allegedly stolen.

The woman who was arrested in the case was charged with theft and possession of stolen property.

She was taken to police headquarters and later released with conditions and a future court date.
