Smile Cookie fundraiser moves to the spring

A delicious fundraiser is back.

Smile Cookie Week usually takes place in the fall at Tim Horton's, but it has been moved to May 1-7 this year. 100 per cent of the proceeds from the sale of Smile Cookies are donated to local organizations.

The Tim's locations in Chatham, Wallaceburg, and Dresden are donating to the Children's Treatment Centre Foundation of Chatham-Kent. The Blenheim, Ridgetown, Thamesville, Tilbury, and Moraviantown, locations are supporting the Chatham-Kent Student Nutrition Program, while the Tim's at the 401 OnRoute in Tilbury are supporting Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Chatham-Kent.

They have even set up a central kitchen for the week to help accommodate all the orders.

"The Chatham-Kent Armouries, Four Diamond Catering, is allowing us to use their kitchen there," said Mike Genge, President of the Children's Treatment Centre Foundation of Chatham-Kent. "We're going to be baking cookies all week, and then distributing them to all the different locations."

Genge said last year the Treatment Centre raised over $50,000, but this year, they are aiming even higher.

"If we could get to anywhere between $75,000 and $100,000, that would be absolutely incredible," said Genge.

For the Children's Treatment Centre Foundation, that money goes towards their programming.

"That's everything from our music programs, to our social work programs, to our recreational therapy programs, to our pool programs as well," said Genge.

The Chatham-Kent Student Nutrition Program received over $21,000 in 2022 from the Smile Cookie campaign.
