Man arrested after bank robbery in Chatham

A 40-year-old Chatham man has been arrested after a downtown bank was robbed.

Police responded to the robbery at TD Canada Trust on King Street just after 3 p.m. on Friday.

Officers said they received information about a man who entered the bank wearing a dark coat with a hood covering his head.

The man allegedly slipped the teller a note demanding money.

Police were given a description of the man and were able to identify him later that evening.

The 40-year-old was charged with robbery. He was transported to police headquarters and lodged pending a bail hearing.

Chatham man arrested for being intoxicated in a public place 

A 22-year-old Chatham man spent some time sobering up in police custody after causing a disturbance at an establishment on St. Clair Street in Chatham.

Police were called to the establishment at 1:47 a.m. on Saturday and observed a man staggering around the parking lot.

Officers said the man was intoxicated and unable to take care of himself.

The 22-year-old was taken to police headquarters and lodged until he was sober.
