Argument escalates into tackle, then assault charges
Tackling is OK on the football field, but outside of that, it could be considered assault.
A 27-year-old Chatham man is finding that out the hard way after he allegedly grabbed and tackled another man while they were arguing in Chatham Tuesday night.
Chatham-Kent police said the man accused of assault was arguing with another man at a property on Centre Street at around 8 p.m. when one of them was directed to leave the property.
One of the men involved in the argument then allegedly tackled the other man and a witness who stepped in to break things up was also allegedly assaulted.
As a result of the investigation, a 27-year-old Chatham man was arrested and charged with two counts of assault.
He was taken to police headquarters and was set to be held there pending a bail hearing.

Man assaults woman with coffee
A 28-year-old Chatham-Kent man is facing charges after he allegedly threw a coffee at the same woman who bought it for him.
Officers said the woman reported the incident to them at police headquarters just after 9:30 a.m. Tuesday.
Police said their investigation showed the woman had picked up the man and bought him a coffee before they started arguing.
Officers said the man got upset with the woman after she refused to drive him to a specific address so he could retrieve some property.
The man then allegedly threw the coffee at the woman and started kicking the windshield of her vehicle.
The woman then went to the police station to file a report and the man was later arrested and charged with assault with a weapon.
He was set to be held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Man arrested for alleged shoplifting
A 38-year-old Chatham-Kent man is facing a pair of charges after he was allegedly caught shoplifting from a business on Grand Avenue West in Chatham.
Police said they were called to the business at around 1:40 p.m. Tuesday and learned that the man had allegedly removed some merchandise from the shelves and then left without paying for it.
Officers were given a description of the man and based on that information, they were able to identify a suspect and arrested him on Victoria Street.
The accused was charged with theft and possession of stolen property and was taken back to police headquarters before he was released with conditions and a future court date.

Man arrested for public intoxication
A 36-year-old Chatham man spent part of the night in a police holding cell after he allegedly caused some "issues" with employees at an establishment in downtown Chatham early Wednesday morning.
Police said they were called to intervene just after 1 a.m. Wednesday, adding that the man was allegedly intoxicated to the point where he couldn't care for himself.
As a result, the man was arrested for public intoxication and he was taken to police headquarters until he sobered up.
