Chatham-Kent man tosses gun into the Thames River before his arrest
A 28-year-old Chatham-Kent man is facing a handful of weapons charges after he allegedly threw a gun into the river in downtown Chatham.
Chatham-Kent police said they found him after they were called to the area of King Street West in Chatham at around 7:20 p.m. Sunday for a report of a man carrying what appeared to be a rifle-style firearm.
When officers caught up with the man on the Fifth Street bridge, they arrested him without incident, but before they did, he allegedly threw the firearm into the water.
While the man was being taken back to police headquarters, he also allegedly threatened the officer who was taking him there.
As a result of the investigation, the 28-year-old man was charged with four counts of possessing a weapon contrary to a prohibition order along with one count each of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, pointing a firearm, uttering threats, and failing to comply with a release order.
He was set to be held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Break-in under investigation at Chatham pizza place
Chatham-Kent police are investigating a break-in that took place sometime between 7 a.m. and 8 a.m. Tuesday at Pie-Zanos on Grand Avenue West in Chatham.

Raleigh Township man sobers up in police custody
A 74-year-old Raleigh Township man spent some time in police custody on Monday after he was allegedly picked up for public intoxication.
Police said they found the man after officers were called to the area of Dufferin Avenue in Chatham for a disturbance.
The man was allegedly "intoxicated and unable to care for himself" when police found him, so he was taken back to police headquarters and was held there until he sobered up.

Man breaks door at CK police headquarters, runs to mom's home
A 28-year-old Chatham-Kent man is charged with mischief after he allegedly smashed the front door at Chatham-Kent police headquarters on Third Street in Chatham.
Police said that took place at around 11:20 p.m. Monday, adding that the man kicked the door and then took off.
Officers said they found him a short time later, causing a disturbance at his mother's home.
The accused was arrested, charged with mischief, and later released with conditions and a future court date.
