Man arrested for assaulting police

A 55-year-old man from Ridgetown faces more than half a dozen charges after a police officer was allegedly assaulted with a weapon.

Shortly after 3:30 a.m. on Thursday, Chatham-Kent police officers were called to a disturbance on Goodal Drive in Ridgetown. Officers were told a man in the garage was responsible.

Police said the man was aggressive.  With a wrench in one hand and a pry bar in the other, he allegedly yelled threats at the officers.

The suspect ran towards the officers, swinging the tools, and one officer was hit.

Police called for backup, and when the additional officers arrived, they used a taser on the man before taking him into custody.

The suspect is charged with weapons dangerous, resisting arrest, two counts of uttering threats, and three of assaulting a police officer with a weapon.

He's being held in custody until a bail hearing takes place.

CK police locate man wanted in Sarnia

Chatham-Kent police lent their colleagues in Sarnia a helping hand in locating a man on their wanted list.

On Wednesday afternoon, the Sarnia Police Service contacted the Chatham-Kent Police Service for assistance in finding the man who was wanted in a criminal harassment investigation.

Within half an hour, Chatham-Kent police located and arrested the man on Pinehurst Line in Harwich Township.

The 34-year-old from Sarnia was released to the Sarnia Police Service.

Calls to police lead to two separate arrests 

Chatham-Kent police arrested two suspects on their wanted list after they got two separate tips from the public.

Just after 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, police were told a woman wanted on an outstanding warrant was at an address on Erie Street South in Wheatley.

The 38-year-old Wheatley woman was located and arrested for failing to attend court.

She also had an outstanding warrant issued by the Ontario Provincial Police.

Elsewhere, a call about a suspicious person on Wellington Street West led Chatham-Kent police to a wanted man.

Police soon located the man on Center Street, and learned he was wanted in a theft and a breach of probation investigation.

A 53-year-old Chatham-Kent man faces theft, possession of the stolen property, and breaching probation order charges.

He was transported to police headquarter and held pending a bail hearing.

Police investigate mischief at Chatham restaurant 

Chatham-Kent police are asking for the public's assistance after a mischief incident at a restaurant on Richmond Street in Chatham.

According to police, it happened on March 15 at Feta Pita.
