Deadline looms to get municipal dog tag

Chatham-Kent dog owners have only a few more weeks to purchase their 2023 dog tags in order to avoid a late fee.

According to Pet And Wildlife Rescue Operations Manager Myriam Armstrong, the deadline to purchase a municipal dog tag is March 31.

"Animal control reminds residents that the Responsible Animal Ownership By-law #170-2021 requires that all dog owners must obtain municipal dog licences for their dogs each year. Residents who fail to purchase 2023 dog tags risk being fined $240," Armstrong said through a media release.

Municipal dog tags can be purchased at the animal shelter in Chatham, at any municipal office, over the phone by calling 311 or online by clicking here. The cost of a dog tag is $38 for non-spayed/neutered dogs and $28 for spayed/neutered dogs.

Residents who no longer own a dog or have moved are asked to contact 311 or 519-360-1998 to have their dog licence account inactivated or updated.

The fee for purchasing a dog tag after the March 31 deadline is $10.
