Generous donation puts breast cancer fundraiser way over the top

A Chatham-Kent councillor's fundraising campaign to support breast cancer treatment at the hospitals in Chatham-Kent received a big boost on International Women's Day.

The Chatham-Kent Health Alliance (CKHA) Helping Hands Auxiliary invited Melissa Harrigan to stop by the CKHA Boutique Grand Gift Shop on Wednesday, March 8 and presented her with a cheque for $10,000 towards the "Her Fight is Our Fight" campaign.

Harrigan was diagnosed with Invasive Ductal Carcinoma, a form of breast cancer, in December of 2022 and is currently on leave from her council duties while she receives treatment.

She teamed up with the CKHA Foundation to raise money toward the purchase of a new VELA Mammography Chair and other enhancements to the Mammography room at the hospital.

Her goal in January was to raise $10,000, and at last check, over $17,000 has been raised.

Pink 'Her Fight Is Our Fight' t-shirts are still available to purchase at the Boutique Grand Gift Shop, with all the money going to support the campaign.
