Murder trial underway in Chatham

The trial of a Sarnia man accused of murdering a man in Chatham nearly two years ago is underway.

The trial for Kyle Samko, 27, began on Monday and resumes on Tuesday.

Samko is charged with first-degree murder in connection to the killing of Manny da Silva, 35, in June of 2021 during an altercation.

Several witnesses are expected to testify this week in Superior Court in Chatham.

Chatham-Kent police previously reported that an altercation took place on George Street near Park Avenue in Chatham involving several men who knew each other. Police said that da Silva was seriously hurt and succumbed to his injuries at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance.

Samko's trial is set for 8-10 days and sentencing, if he's found guilty, will take place at a later date.
