Man charged with dangerous driving

A Wallaceburg man outran Chatham-Kent police, but he couldn't hide from their police dog.

Police said officers tried to stop a suspicious vehicle leaving a business on Victoria Road in Thamesville on Monday at 4 a.m., but the vehicle allegedly kept going before the two occupants eventually got out at the Dresden Cemetery and ran away.

The Chatham-Kent Canine Unit was then deployed and found one man in the wooded area. Police said the man was identified as the driver of the vehicle and was allegedly found with counterfeit American money. Officers also confirmed the man was under conditions of a release order and a probation order.

A 37-year-old Wallaceburg man was arrested and charged with flight from police, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, operation of a motor vehicle while prohibited, possession of counterfeit money, failing to comply with a release order, and failing to comply with a probation order.

Chatham man arrested for shoplifting

Charges have been laid against a Chatham man following a theft in Chatham.

Police said a man was seen allegedly removing merchandise from shelves at the store on Wellington Street West Monday evening and attempting to leave without paying. The man was detained by store security until police arrived.

The 27-year-old Chatham man was charged with theft and possession of the stolen property.

Man arrested for impaired driving

Another impaired driver has been taken off the roads in Chatham-Kent.

Police said officers responded to a motor vehicle collision on Erie Street in Wheatley Monday night and arrested a 33-year-old man from Leamington. Authorities noted a vehicle allegedly struck two parked Canada Post vehicles and then came to stop in a ditch.

When officers arrived on the scene, they believed the driver was under the influence of alcohol and was taken to police headquarters for breath tests.

The suspect was later charged with having a blood alcohol level exceeding the legal limit.
