Wanted man arrested after shoplifting complaint

A 25-year-old Chatham-Kent man who was already wanted on four outstanding warrants is in more trouble with police after he allegedly stole some merchandise from a business in Chatham.

Chatham-Kent police said they were called to a business on Wellington Street West just before 3 p.m. Sunday for a report of a man who was seen taking some items off the shelves and then trying to leave without paying for them.

Police said he didn't get very far, though, because he was detained by store security until officers arrived.

CK police arrested the man and confirmed he was wanted on four warrants.

He was charged with theft and possession of stolen property and taken back to police headquarters where he was set to be held pending a bail hearing.

Chatham man arrested after argument turns physical

A 24-year-old Chatham man is facing an assault charge after he allegedly punched someone in the face and the head several times during an argument on Park Street late Sunday afternoon.

Police said they were called to the residence at around 5:45 p.m. Sunday and learned that the man had allegedly assaulted the victim after getting into a verbal argument.

Officers said the victim suffered minor injuries as a result of the incident.

The man accused of hitting him was arrested, charged with assault, and taken back to police headquarters. He was later released with conditions and a future court date.

Police meet victim of domestic violence at the hospital

A 38-year-old Chatham man is facing a handful of charges after he allegedly assaulted a woman so badly she went to the hospital to get treatment for her injuries.

Chatham-Kent police said they met the woman at the hospital in Chatham at around 4:15 p.m. Sunday and learned she had allegedly been assaulted by a man earlier in the day and was getting medical attention for her injuries.

Police said they also learned it was not the first time she had been assaulted by him.

Officers found the man on Oxley Drive in Chatham just before 7:45 p.m. Sunday and arrested him.

He was charged with three counts of assault causing bodily harm, one count of assault, and one count of uttering threats.

The accused was taken to police headquarters and was set to be held there pending a bail hearing.
