An aid organization in Haiti with Chatham-Kent roots is getting a significant funding boost thanks to local music lovers.
The Rise House International Rock-a-Thon was held in Chatham on Saturday. The event featured 12 hours of live music from 12 different bands.
Emily Hime, who is the founder of Rise House International, says she couldn't be more pleased with how much was raised. The money will benefit the charity which operates a safe haven for women and children just outside of Port Au Prince in Haiti.
"All the proceeds will be used directly on the grounds in Haiti," said Hime. "It will help send kids to school, pay our staff, and provide kids with food and shelter. Really, all of the basic necessities that we provide for them."
Over $10,000 was raised from the event at Sons of Kent Brewery.
"This was our second year running the Rock-a-Thon," said Hime.
Last year, Sons of Kent created a limited edition beer to help raise money for Rise House International.
This year, a portion of all of the proceeds from beer sales during the event will be donated to the organization.
"I want to thank all the sponsors and bands who performed over the weekend," said Hime. "The event was a huge success."
